Hey there, glad to have you back!
Today's blog is about the venerable Messerschmitt ME-109. Germany produced a remarkable 33,000 of this aircraft type (all models). This figure is more than any other aircraft in history and will likely stand for a very long time (drones not included). The model in the image is a 109G-10 and wears the markings of German Ace Hermann Graf. and flew a staggering 830 combat missions and survived the war.
For this image I made a conscious choice to create it in gritty, black and white to reflect a more 1940s period accurate representation. The paved runway though is very likely a dead giveaway it is not. Many of the wartime photos I've seen of German aircraft are on grass fields with planes tucked away, out of sight in the treeline. There is no doubt however that this is a war machine and is one of THE most recognizable fighters in Germany's Luftwaffe during WWII. Fast and nimble, it carried a punch with it's 20mm cannon in the nose and the general design has a menacing air about it.
Thanks for looking and stay tuned for another blog post, you won't want to miss it.
Talley ho!
Steve
