"Broken Arrow"
During the Vietnam War the phrase "Broken Arrow" was military slang meaning that a ground unit or camp is being overrun and to send all available air support assets. The code phrase was used by U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Harold G. Moore, 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry regiment during the Battle of Ia Drang Valley when they were about to be overrun by the North Vietnamese. Carrying up to 8,000 lbs of rockets, bombs and napalm the Skyraider was a formidable ground support attack aircraft.
