This Boeing McDonnell Douglas F-15EX Eagle was performing at the 2025 Hillsboro Air Show in Oregon. As a photographer, taking the photo is only half of the process of creating a dynamic and eye catching image. High resolution RAW files are created in digital cameras in addition to the typical lower resolution JPEG file format. The RAW files however have much greater flexibility in the editing stage. Shadows can be pulled out, highlights subdued, colors accentuated in greater detail, smart cropping can enhance how the subject is viewed. My goal is always, first and foremost, to take a unique and stunning photo with composition and lighting being two key factors. Then, bring out the best in that photo by making it memorable and drawing the viewer into the frame. The higher contrast and darker quality of this F-15, along with the angle of flight gives the image a quality of a gritty presence and aggressive posture. There are those times when I sit back and look at the finished image, and know that I have created something special. This image is one of those times.
