de Havilland DHC-6 Twin Otter

A Natural Development

A Royal Canadian Armed Forces de Havilland CC-138 "Twin Otter", the military version of the commercial DHC-6-300 variant. It's primary use with Canadian Armed Forces is search and rescue.  Notice the larger tires for landing on snow, ice or rough terrain.  The Twin Otter was a natural development of the single engine DHC-3 Otter.  Keeping all the short take-off and landing features, the aircraft received a more powerful engine.  Nearly 1,000 of the type have been produced since 1965.  There are also versions with floats. De Havilland also designed and produced the DHC-2 "Beaver", a photo of which can also be found on the Aeon site.  The photo was taken at the 2023 Oregon Airshow
