Last Chance

Hello all, and thanks again for visiting my blog.  This post is again about one of my all time favorite aircraft.  The Chance Vought F4U Corsair.  I can't quite put my finger on it, maybe it's the bent wings or that long nose but whatever it is, it has captured my imagination.  This particular aircraft, an F4U-1A, was delivered on August 31, 1943. The airplane is a WWII combat veteran and participated in Operation Cartwheel in the South Pacific.  This operation was a major military effort to neutralize the major Japanese stronghold of Rabaul.  There, it was shared among several US Marine Corps squadrons including the famed VMF-214 "Black Sheep.
