I recently attended the Oregon International Air Show at Hillsboro, OR. It was the shows 35th anniversary and my first time there. I was lucky to see, and photograph, this Lockheed P-38J Lightning named "23 Skidoo". This aircraft is only one of a handful of airworthy P-38s left in the world of the 10,037 of the type produced. I was enthralled as it did quite a few low passes along with a number of other warbirds. It was a sight to behold. I had only ever seen a P-38 fly once before and that was at the 1987 Reno Air Races. I hope this will not be the last time I see one fly. I have been to a lot of air shows over forty years and truth be told, the Oregon Air Show was THE best air show I had ever attended. If you get the chance, put it on your calendar and go. You will not be disappointed.
Tally ho!
