Nine Lives
The Consolidated PBY "Catalina", affectionately called the 'Cat', was one of the most widely used seaplanes during WWII. With a combat range of over 3,000 miles it performed; reconnaissance, air and sea rescue, and anti-submarine patrol. There were many notable missions and engagements by Catalinas. One such mission was a Catalina on patrol which spotted the Japanese fleet led by Admiral Yamamoto, beginning the Battle of Midway. This 'Cat', in a state of restoration and is part of the permanent exhibits at the Palm Springs Air Museum.
