A warm welcome to the first of many blog posts about; aviation, aviation photography, air shows, aircraft history and trivia. If you haven't guessed by now, I've had a life long passion for all things aviation related. When I combine that passion with my passion for photography I get excited about merging these two personal interests. First, a little background about me. I am the son of an Air Force pilot and Vietnam veteran and also hold a private pilots license. I worked in the aviation industry for nearly 40 years on space, military, and commercial programs - both as an engineer and later a marketing director. Not only am I a photographer of aviation, but artist and am also a published military history author with an article on the Boeing B-17 "Flying Fort" in the Winter 2014 issue of The Journal of America's Military Past.
Today's featured image is a Yakovlev Yak-18T. I photographed this aircraft recently at the 2022 Arlington Skyfest air show in Washington State. The Yak-18T is a four to five-seat utility aircraft and is fully aerobatic, designed for stresses up to 6.5 g's. Yakovlev developed the aircraft to train Aeroflot pilots and later has gained some popularity as a sport plane both inside and outside the former USSR. It is powered by a Vedeneyev M14P radial engine. It was amazing, and awe inspiring, to see this big, seemingly clumsy looking aircraft, doing incredible aerobatic maneuvers so gracefully. It was a sight to behold as I hope the photo shows! Thanks for reading!
