Whistling Death

Whistling Death

Hello again!

I am very excited about my latest release, this gritty black and white F4U Corsair image titled "Whistling Death".  This view is what I like to call the 'business end' of the aircraft - staring down the six 0.50 caliber machine guns. The US Navy and Marines flew the Corsair and it is arguably one of the most iconic fighters of WWII, recognizable by its bent 'gull wing' to accommodate its huge 13' diameter propeller.  This particular aircraft, built in mid-1943, is one of the oldest F4Us still flying.  The airplane is a war veteran and saw combat service in the Pacific Theater, in part, with the famed VMF-214 "Black Sheep" squadron commanded by Pappy Boyington among other squadrons. The grainy, black and white print conveys a vintage, timeless look.  This image has quickly become one of my favorites.

The photo was taken at the 2023 Moses Lake Air Show.  The airplane is a part of the Planes of Fame Air Museum in Chino, CA.  The airplane  was one of the Corsairs flown during the making of the major motion picture, "Devotion", released last December.

Talley ho!

Steve
