This post features my third Russian airplane photo, the WWII fighter Yakovlev Yak3 (my first two being the Yak-18 and Antonov AN-124). Coming on the heels of the Fourth of July I took the liberty of a little tongue in cheek with the phrase, "Yankee Doodle Dandy". To be totally honest, I am a bit surprised that I have three photos of Russian aircraft as seeing them fly is rare sight indeed. I have admired this fighter design for many years and it is probably my favorite Russian aircraft of the war, and yes, ahead of the IL-2 Sturmovik. The high speed passes were indeed fast and the engine was quiet and smooth. Its agility as a fighter was readily apparent. I decided to show this photo in black and white for a bit of a vintage look. Monochrome never goes out of style. The photo was taken at this year's Olympia Air Show. Enjoy!
Talley ho!
