"Tomahawk" - Curtiss P-40C
This image showcases the 'Flying Tiger' shark teeth of the American Volunteer Group (AVG) in China. Photo was taken at a Flying Heritage Collection fly day in Everett, WA. This particular aircraft is a combat veteran. Initially built for the US Army Air Corps, it was purchased by the British along with nine other P-40Cs. Subsequently supplied to the Russians, she arrived via convoy at Murmansk in January 1942 and was issued to a Russian fighter unit. Over the next several months she saw service on the Karelian Front in the defense of Murmansk, and was shot down on September 27th, 1942. Having been hit in the oil tank her pilot, Major Ermakov, made a belly landing south of Murmansk where she lay for some fifty-one years before being discovered by a satellite photo. Add a slim, black floating frame to really set off this image. Your satisfaction is absolutely guaranteed and shipping is free!
